Obama adds “Fight the Smears” section to his website to dispel rumors

In response to the flurry of rumors begun by radical right-wingers (aided by gossip columns, FOX News and the like) and perpetuated by people who just don’t know whether the rumors are true or not, Barack Obama has recently added a section to this website, called Fight the Smears. Bold, clever move, Obama.

In this website, all the rumors circulating about him (including rumors that he is Muslim, that he won’t say the pledge of allegiance, that his wife has used the word ‘Whitey’ in a public speech, etc etc) are dispelled–whether by showing the parts of his books that have been falsified or showing video of Obama leading the pledge in the Senate. The site also shows a copy of his birth certificate, which some people claimed he was hiding.

Via the site you can sign up for the Obama action wire, see a few of the big dogs who have cooked up rumors, forward any new smears you hear to a watchdog email address and of course, donate. The banner at the top reads, “What you won’t hear from this campaign or this party is the kind of politics that uses religion as a wedge, and patriotism as a bludgeon — that sees our opposition not as competitors to challenge, but enemies to demonize. Because we may call ourselves Democrats and Republicans, but we are Americans first. We are always Americans first. — Barack Obama, June 3, 2008.” Check it out today and pass it along to your friends!

Stumble this post and make sure folks know the truth about Obama!

  2. Senator Obama is NOT a Dirty Muslim!

“What you won’t hear from this campaign or this party is the kind of politics that uses religion as a wedge,” says Mr. Obama, while denouncing statements of him being a Muslim as a smear. Why is the presidential candidate who claims to be religiously inclusive is treating the word “Muslim” as an insult? Apparently, it is OK for Mr. Obama to be associated with terrorists like William Ayers or racists like Jeremiah Wright, but God forbid somebody would call him a Muslim! No, he won’t stand for that kind of smear! We admit that most terrorists are Muslims, but most Muslims are not terrorists and the statement on Mr. Obama’s website is insulting to hundreds of millions of people.

How could a man who discards his family heritage in favor of political expediency be even considered for presidency of the United States? Where are all the so-called “Islamic civil rights groups” like CAIR, MPAC, ISNA, MAS, etc. who are quick to defend every Islamic terrorist, but are silent when Muslims in general are being denigrated? Would Mr. Obama have the same reaction if someone claimed that he was raised as a Jew? We sincerely doubt that.

Muslims Against Sharia demand immediate removal of “SMEAR: Barack Obama is a Muslim” statement from the official Barack Obama’s website as well as an apology for giving the word “Muslim” a negative connotation.

  3. While I see where you’re coming from to a certain point, I would say that I interpret the presence of the “Barack Obama is not a Muslim” entry on the Fight the Smears website strictly to explain that he considers himself a Christian.
He recognizes that the term “Muslim” can unfortunately be viewed in our country with negative connotations, and scolds attempts to bring the negative associations of some back to him during the campaign in order to as he says “drive a wedge”. I can see where he is coming from as well.
Obama has just as much a freedom to religion as you or I, and to call it “[discarding] his family heritage” is putting words and actions into his mouth from what I can tell.
He does not treat the assertion that he is Muslim with contempt or with embarrassment as you allude, but he does defend his Christian beliefs. I would probably be upset if I was suddenly widely assumed to be a Christian, though I am not. I imagine you would defend your Muslim beliefs if someone on a national scale declared that you were, in fact, a Christian, though you are not. Would that mean you were insulting Christianity? No. You would simply be claiming your beliefs as your own.
